A Beautifully Disney Review by Heather Holley

When Disney announced the Haunted Mansion collection for Beautifully Disney I was so excited. I love all things Haunted Mansion and have recently grown an interest in makeup. That being said I want to begin my review with I am not a makeup expert or beauty guru by any means, but I thought I’d share my experience and opinions on my purchase.

I never thought I would purchase anything from the Beautifully Disney line because it’s quite a bit more than I am generally willing to spend on makeup, but as I mentioned before, I was excited by all of the Haunted Mansion options. I really struggled choosing between the nail polish strips, nail polish set, and the mini lipstick set. I finally settled on the lipstick set for several reasons. The first, I would get the most use out of it. The nail strips were a onetime thing and the polish would probably dry out before I even used half of it. The second reason was this lipstick set includes the perfect shade of purple I had been searching for. (I’ll get more into the details of the colors in a minute.)

First, let’s talk about the basics of this product. This mini lipstick set contains four tubes each containing .04 oz of lipstick and the box gives it 12 months until expiration. This set cost $24.95 plus tax in October. I just searched Disney’s site and it seems this collection is no longer available, but I don’t know if that also means there isn’t any left at the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney or Memento Mori in the Magic Kingdom. (Side note, the mini lipstick set in the Tangled Web collection appears to have very similar colors and is currently on sale for $17.99.)

Now, onward to the review portion of this article! Overall, I love this product. The packaging is wickedly awesome. The box contains imagery from the Haunted Mansion like Madame Leota, the wallpaper print, and the singing busts. The actual tubes of lipstick are purple with green skulls. I’ve kept my tubes in the original box because I just love it so much. It also helps keep me from losing any of my tubes because they really are quite small.

From packaging to the actual product…As previously mentioned there are four different tubes. These colors are deep and perfect tones that scream Haunted Mansion. The names of the colors are morbidly perfect as well. The first shade is called “Ball & Chain”. It’s a bright and bold red that seems to have an orange tone to it. This is the color I have worn the least. I don’t dislike it; it’s just not my favorite out of the group. The next color is “Look Alive”. This is a deep burgundy/brown shade. This is my second most worn color. I love it because it isn’t a shade I see often and I think it’s a very pretty contrast against my pale skin. The next color is “Bride and Doom”. It’s a lovely light mauve color. I don’t have much more to say on this one other than it is probably the most neutral/normal color in the set. Finally, the reason I bought this set…”Ghost Host”. This shade is an amazing lavender and, as odd as purple lipstick may sound, I think it is actually very pretty and not as eccentric as your may imagine. Each shade is wonderful and applies opaque. I know the pictures seem to show the colors have a shimmer, but they dry matte. That is a plus for me, but I know some may prefer the glossy look.

While there are so many things I love about this product, it is far from perfect. I’m really not that impressed with the longevity (or lack thereof) of this lipstick. It seems the color lasts up to 3 hours on average. Again, I’m not a makeup expert, but I was expecting a little better performance from Disney’s makeup line. Another issue I have seems to only happen with the “Look Alive” shade. This color seems to take forever to dry. This has led to me getting lipstick on my chin, and it does not easily come off. (Hello embarrassment!) Again, maybe this is my lack of makeup experience. Is there a trick I’m missing out on for better lipstick application? If so, please share! Anyway… back to the review. I know these two negatives are pretty big things, but I do not regret this purchase. I think the uniqueness of these shades and the wonderful Haunted Mansion theme outweighs the bad. However, I probably will not be purchasing anymore Beautifully Disney lipstick in the future… unless a Nightmare Before Christmas collection comes out. Then, all bets are off.

5 Things Not to Say to a Disney Fan by Emma Smith

As Disney fans, we have to put up with quite a lot of condescending and rude statements. Many people are under the assumption that Disney is just for kids, which we all know is completely false, and feel the need to share their thoughts with the rest of the world. If you aren’t a huge Disnerd and come across someone who is, be courteous enough to not put down the things that they love. There should be no shame in admitting things that you enjoy, and everyone should focus more on making others feel comfortable enough to share the things they like. Here are just a select few of many statements I’ve heard other people say upon learning of my love for Disney.

• “Aren’t you a little old for Disney?” This is probably the most common idea among the non-Disney fans. No, I’m not too old for Disney, and you aren’t either! Although most of the Disney movies are targeted at a younger audience, that doesn’t mean that adults can’t enjoy them or the messages each film concentrates on communicating. Disney parks are definitely not just for kids, either — just ask any adult who has been!

• “You’re going to Disney again?” Usually followed by “Weren’t you just there?” and “Don’t you ever get sick of it?”, this statement grates on my nerves like none other. I could go to the Disney parks every single day and never get sick of it! To me, this is like asking, “Are you still breathing oxygen?” Numerous trips are necessary to my survival in this cruel, non-Disney world.

• “Is Disneyland the one in Florida?” Or simply just mixing up the two parks. Although I know that not everyone has been lucky enough to visit a Disney park, I think it should be common knowledge that Disneyland is in California and Walt Disney World is in Florida. For goodness sakes, people, keep the parks straight! Whenever I try to correct someone on this fact, I always end up sounding stuck-up, so I usually just grin and bear it.

• “I don’t like rides, so I wouldn’t like Disney.” Lots of people seem to be under the assumption that the only thing to do at Disney is ride rides, which is just about as far from the truth as you can get. There are so many amazing shows, character experiences, restaurants, and events happening all year round at all of the parks, as well as attractions to accommodate everyone’s tastes. To be honest, I think that theme parks like Six Flags and Cedar Point are more focused around rides than Disney is.

• “It’s too crowded/hot there.” Yes, Disney parks can get crowded, especially at peak times of the year. Yes, the people, combined with Florida heat and random thunderstorms, can make some times of the day more trying than others, but it’s simply worth it. The magical memories made at Disney make up for the hoards of tour groups and family reunions, the humidity, the not getting enough sleep. Soon, the “bad” memories of crowds and sunburns fade, but the recollection of all of the wonderful experiences will last a lifetime.

Land of “Frozen” Coming to Disney Cruise Line This Summer

Beginning in summer 2015, Disney Cruise Line guests can immerse themselves in the animated hit “Frozen” with brand-new experiences inspired by the film, including a spectacular deck party, a three-song stage show production number, new character meet and greets, storybook adventures ashore and more.

Frozen on Disney Cruise Line

A Day of Frozen Fun, Including New Deck Party

Debuting this summer, on select Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sailings to Europe and Alaska, Disney Cruise Line guests are transported to the land of “Frozen” when the ship is transformed into a winter wonderland and a day of frozen fun culminates with an extravagant celebration with friends from the Kingdom of Arendelle.

On one special morning, guests will awake to discover a magical freeze has overtaken the atrium lobby with sparkling icicles adorning the grand staircase, resembling the majestic mountain-top ice palace of Queen Elsa.

Icy adventures and fun for the entire family throughout the day include all-new meet and greets and themed experiences:

  • Memorable moments with Anna, Elsa, and for the first time in forever, Kristoff and Olaf
  • “Anna’s Chase for the Chocolate” scavenger hunt for those who share Anna’s sense of adventure, with a special surprise for finishing the game
  • “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” activity where kids take on Elsa’s magical powers to make snow and ice
  • “The Maypole Swirl and Twirl” for families to learn a traditional Scandinavian dance spinning and braiding giant ribbons
  • “Frozen” themed dining experience, including a menu inspired by traditional Nordic fare and special dishes inspired by the film

The evening fun kicks off with “Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa and Friends,” a family-friendly interactive deck party featuring the famous royal sisters of Arendelle and their fun-loving Nordic companions. By now, the freeze has spread to the upper decks of the ship, with giant snowflakes, icicles and snow-covered rocks.

The celebration begins with a high-energy line dance, set to the movie’s ice cutting scene, featuring the arrival of Kristoff, impressively twirling his ice picks, and Princess Anna.

Anna and Kristoff’s beloved companions, Sven, the trolls and Olaf, make virtual appearances at the party. Sven engages the crowd in reindeer games like “Sven Says” and the “Troll Stroll,” and Olaf leads a sing along to his signature song, “In Summer.”

Elsa arrives with a snowy gust of wind, calling on guests to sing “Let it Go” with her as she conjures up a wintry spectacle to cool things down for Olaf. In true Disney fashion, Elsa unleashes her magic, sending a chill through everyone as the powerful Academy Award-winning song echoes from the ship.

The evening concludes with more family dancing on the pool deck, followed by fun just for adults in the nightclub featuring dance performances and frozen specialty drinks.

New Production Number in “Disney Dreams”

This summer, friends from “Frozen” are making their stage show debut at sea in the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Magic. In the Disney Cruise Line original production, “Disney Dreams … An Enchanted Classic,” Anna, Elsa and Olaf join the line up of beloved Disney characters who together teach a young girl the power of her dreams.

Brand-new scenes featuring “Frozen” characters include renditions of three popular songs: “Let it Go,” “For the First Time in Forever” and “In Summer.” The new show segment is a heartfelt, humorous and memorable tribute to the “Frozen” film, preserving its endearing and playful tones with an inspiring message. Special effects are magical, with a snowfall throughout the theatre and a breathtaking transformation of the young girl’s room into her own ice palace.

Magical Meet and Greets

Olaf will be giving warm hugs when he joins Anna and Elsa on their royal tour of the Disney Cruise Line ships, beginning this summer. Children and families will have the opportunity to meet and take photographs with their favorite “Frozen” friends on the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and Disney Magic.

Adventures Ashore in Norway

Disney Cruise Line guests who travel aboard the Disney Magic to Norway, the land that inspired Arendelle from “Frozen,” will have the opportunity to join exciting new Port Adventures that bring this fairytale setting to life. One signature adventure ashore in Alesund, Norway, created exclusively for Disney Cruise Line, will immerse guests in the splendor and charm of Norway, with the help of Anna and Elsa, in an enchanting storybook village.

Other shore excursions take Disney Cruise Line guests to discover the breathtaking natural wonders, stunning architecture and rich Scandinavian culture depicted in the film. Seven and nine-night voyages begin June 6, 2015, sailing through Norwegian fjords and calling on ports including Stavanger, Alesund, Geiranger, Molde, Olden and Bergen, Norway.

Olaf’s Summertime Freeze on Castaway Cay

With the help of everyone’s favorite snowman, Disney Cruise Line is cooling down Castaway Cay with the addition of Olaf’s Summertime Freeze bar. Serving non-alcoholic specialty frozen drinks in souvenir cups, the creative menu features refreshing beverages such as “Olaf’s Flurry Freeze,” “Sven’s Carrot Delight” and “Warm Hugs.” Olaf’s Summertime Freeze opens summer 2015 near the Pelican Point tram stop by Castaway Cay Family Beach.
