Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared some exciting news about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at D23’s Destination D event at Walt Disney World® Resort. During his presentation, Bob shared two videos, which for the first time ever, revealed the names of the two major attractions that will be part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on opening day at Disneyland® Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios®.
The first, entitled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, puts you behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in one of three unique flight crew roles.
Our second attraction, which puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order, is called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. As you can see from this video, which was shot in the actual attraction, both the stakes, and the excitement are running high in this epic Star Wars cliffhanger!
These two new incredible experiences – paired with the land’s dynamic elements and optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app – invite guests to become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away.
But that’s not all! When you think about Star Wars, I’m sure that the iconic music of legendary composer John Williams comes to mind. Today, Bob shared more exciting news in that Oscar-winning composer John Williams is creating new and original Star Wars themes exclusively for the land! Bob shared a stirring preview of the all-new music, recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. You can listen to the preview as well in this new video, which showcases recent construction progress at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
And there’s so much more to do at this exotic outpost. For example, you can visit a street market in Black Spire Outpost, shop at food stalls where you can enjoy delicacies like blue milk, or visit the Cantina where you can see an old friend Rex, as well as encounter creatures and characters that are hallmarks of the Star Wars universe. Guests from across the galaxy can experience this new larger-than-life land at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort beginning in 2019.
Adding to the galactic excitement, Bob shared new details about the currently in-development Star Wars resort coming to Walt Disney World Resort. This groundbreaking experience is unlike any resort experience you’ve ever seen. From the moment you board your launch pod, it’s a fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury starship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience.
We can’t wait to share more details for both Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and this unique multi-day adventure as we get closer to launching these projects.

This weekend at D23’s Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, our Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared a sneak peek at what’s to come for Disney’s Riviera Resort.
This proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property, projected to open Fall 2019, is inspired by the European grandeur Walt Disney experienced in his travels along Europe’s Mediterranean coastline. As you can see from this newly released rendering, Disney Vacation Club Members and other Guests will have a great view of fireworks spectaculars and easy access to the Disney Skyliner, which will have a station at the resort.
In 1935, not long after Mickey Mouse was born, Walt took a break from the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Walt & Lillian and Roy & Edna Disney took an extended grand tour of Europe that would have an impact on Disney storytelling for decades to come. With its castles and colorful, fairy-tale villages, Walt fell in love with Europe – the art, the architecture, the food, and, of course, the stories.
We are so excited to share more and more of this inspiring resort story over the next several months. Stay tuned for details!
Disney’s Riviera Resort is not yet fully registered or available for sale.

Walt Disney Animation Studios used the Wall Street Journal’s technology conference to talk about how animators portrayed the internet in the film Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 and build some Silicon Valley buzz for its Nov. 21 opening.
As we approach our first holiday season without a new Star Wars movie since the franchise returned in 2015, all eyes are on Star Wars: Episode IX. The film is still shrouded in the standard mystery, but a recent report has indicated that Episode IX is intended to be a course correction for the franchise, with director J.J. Abrams seemingly tasked with fixing Star Wars’ issues with his Episode IX.
The first Pirates of the Caribbean film took a lot of inspiration from the ride, mostly in the form of making skeleton pirates a major part of the story. Following the franchise’s success, many of the characters from the films became part of the ride itself. Now, it appears that Disney may be going back to the ride to look for new inspiration, as a new rumor indicates that the ride’s newest character, the female pirate Redd, may be replacing Captain Jack in the rumored reboot.
Ooh La La! If you or your children love all things glamorous and glittery, then you simply must pick up a copy of Disney FANCY NANCY. Nancy is all about all things fancy. From jazzing up a plain playhouse to hosting a lemonade tasting in the neighborhood, Nancy uses her imagination to bring everything to life. Now to be honest, growing up I was definitely more like Nancy’s sporty friends Wanda and Rhonda. My daughters, however, would have loved FANCY NANCY when they were little! As a teacher, I also like the mini vocabulary lessons that Nancy slips in during each episode. She says a “fancy” word in English or French then explains what that word means. A great way to watch FANCY NANCY would be to also read the FANCY NANCY picture books for younger readers and the chapter books for older readers. Making connections to their lives and talking about the lessons learned in each episode or book can spark so many conversations about being a good friend and making good choices. With the push for SEL (Social Emotional Learning) in schools today, characters like FANCY NANCY and her friends can teach youngsters so much. If FANCY NANCY sounds like your cup of tea, put on your fanciest accessories and get to the store for your own fancy copy.
