Disney Wonder Sets Sail on Inaugural Voyage from New Orleans

Disney Cruise Line just embarked on our inaugural season sailing from New Orleans! This also marks the very first time that Disney Cruise Line has had a homeport in Louisiana. On the Disney Wonder’s first departure from the Crescent City, the ship received a celebratory bon voyage from Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and members of the traditional New Orleans Treme Brass Band.

This cruise that has just commenced kicks off a limited-engagement season sailing from New Orleans in 2020. Best of all, we will be returning to New Orleans again in early 2021. These voyages visit the Bahamas, Caribbean and include stops at Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay.

For those that are from the area, they can get ready to experience the magic of having a Disney ship in their own backyard. And if they’re joining us from farther away, they can savor the excitement and flair of the Big Easy both onboard and ashore.

In New Orleans, you will find magic around every corner as they recognize the iconic sights and sounds that inspired the Disney animated film “The Princess and the Frog.”

Onboard the Disney Wonder, we are “gonna take you there!” You will be treated to a celebration of New Orleans dining and entertainment at Tiana’s Place restaurant with a menu that draws inspiration from the flavors and ingredients of the Louisiana bayou.

At the brand new French Quarter Lounge they’re transported deeper into the story to enjoy live jazz music, sip a New Orleans-themed specialty drink and dance the night away. Throughout the days, family activities, trivia, workshops, crafts and music bring the bayou spirit of family gatherings and fun to life.

Please join us in welcoming Disney Cruise Line to the Big Easy!

All in the Details: Making the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Marquee

We’re less than a month away from rolling out the red carpet for the new Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®. You will be able to experience the attraction beginning March 4! Earlier this week, Walt Disney Imagineering marked a milestone on the attraction’s progress by unveiling its dazzling new marquee.

“We want to make sure that we’re providing an amazing marquee that really celebrates the entrance into a great attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” said Art Director Phillip Hillis.

The marquee is brought to “light” by blinking bulbs and animated depictions of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse created with real, hand-crafted neon. It takes its design cue from the extravagant made-for-the-movie marquees that were custom designed for the premieres of epic films in the mid-20th century. It also connects to the design and glamour of the Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Boulevard, the main thoroughfare through the park.

When the attraction debuts on March 4, you can head to the Chinese Theatre to see the world premiere of Mickey and Minnie’s latest cartoon short entitled “Perfect Picnic.” The theater will serve as the magic portal through which theater-goers can burst directly into the cartoon world.

And did you know that Mickey and Minnie have a history at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood? The 1931 Mickey Mouse cartoon “Mickey Steps Out,” was screened at the Chinese Theatre. And the 1933 cartoon, “Mickey’s Gala Premier,” opens with an establishing shot in front of the Chinese Theatre with a blinking marquee and crisscrossing searchlights welcoming Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow to the red carpet.

First Look! New Marquee for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Lights Up Disney’s Hollywood Studios

It’s now less than a month away from the premiere of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, the first ride-through attraction in Disney history based on Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Ahead of the highly anticipated attraction’s March 4 debut, Disney Imagineers are fine-tuning what promises to be a fun adventure for all ages inside the park’s iconic Chinese Theatre.

And speaking of that theater … it has a brand-new marquee! Crews installed the glamorous Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway sign earlier this week, which features blinking bulbs and animated neon depictions of Mickey and Minnie beckoning you into their wacky and wonderful cartoon world.

The sign won’t officially light up until the attraction opens for guests in March, but someone we all know and love happened to stumble across it this week in the wee hours of the morning and made some magic happen.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway takes you inside a “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short, where anything can happen aboard a train ride through Runnamuck Park. They’ll join Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and more on a family-friendly adventure featuring dazzling visual effects, a lovable theme song, and surprising twists and turns. The attraction will open in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland® Park in California in 2022.
