Birds Eye® Vegetables and Disney® Team Up to Launch Veggin’ In LA with Laura Marano Sweepstakes
Birds Eye® frozen vegetables and the Walt Disney Company® are teaming up to increase vegetable consumption among children in the United States. The launch of this joint initiative, The Veggin’ In LA With Laura Marano Sweepstakes presented by Birds Eye, will show kids that veggies can be fun, cool, and delicious. The sweepstakes, running through September 24, features a grand prize trip to Los Angeles to “veg out” and enjoy a private dinner party with Laura Marano, one of the stars of Disney Channel’s popular comedy series, “Austin & Ally,” and a Birds Eye chef.
Given that 9 out of 10 children don’t eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, it is increasingly important to show kids and their parents that filling half of their plates with veggies is not just possible, but tasty too.
PANDORA Jewelry and Disney Announce New Strategic Alliance
PANDORA Jewelry announced a new strategic alliance with The Walt Disney Company that will give the brand a presence in Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, beginning with the sponsorship of the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida this fall. In addition, PANDORA, in collaboration with Disney Consumer Products, is creating an original collection of beautifully designed Disney-themed jewelry launching at retail locations this fall.
“To say that PANDORA is excited about our relationship with Disney is an understatement,” said Scott Burger, President, PANDORA Americas. “Having a presence in the theme parks gives the brand another opportunity to engage with families and play a significant role in both the big and small moments of their lives.
Our consumers and retail partners have been requesting Disney-themed products for years and we are thrilled to finally offer them a brilliant assortment of charms that are the perfect balance of sophistication and whimsy. Our design teams have worked to build a collection that meets the exacting quality standards of PANDORA, preserves the integrity of the Disney characters we have all come to love over the years, and gives our consumers another way to share their stories,” continued Burger.
The new collection of hand finished sterling silver and 14K gold charms will feature inspirations from some of Disney’s most beloved characters. The initial launch, expected to roll out to PANDORA stores early November 2014, will include 25 different styles; an additional 16 styles will be sold at Disney merchandise locations, including the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. The Disney collection from PANDORA will also be available in PANDORA stores throughout Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean in November.
KaBOOM! Play Together Tour Powered by Disney Parks Brings Playtime to Families Across the United States
From coast to coast and points in between, the KaBOOM! Play Together Tour powered by Disney Parks will travel to six cities across America for fun-filled family play events that encourage meaningful connections between children and the influential adults in their lives.
The free events, which kick-off August 16-17 in Anaheim, will feature a playful obstacle course designed by Disney Imagineers. Families will design their team flags and make their way through the various games and team-building stations to build tunnels, solve puzzles, and play together. Once they have finished, they can enjoy the imagination play zone and explore family volunteering opportunities.
While there is no doubt to the importance of quality family time, research supported by Disney Parks and completed by the Search Institute and Center for Childhood Creativity has underscored the powerful influence that spending meaningful time together has on a child’s success in school and involvement in their community.
“We are thrilled to work with Disney once again and provide another creative way in which families can spend meaningful and playful bonding time together,” said KaBOOM! CEO and Founder Darell Hammond. “At KaBOOM!, we advocate for the balanced and active play kids need to thrive, and are excited to present this unique opportunity for families.”
“For nearly 60 years, we’ve made our mark creating places where families can connect and spend meaningful time together,” said Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs. “Through our work with KaBOOM!, we are able to bring that expertise to communities around the country to help nurture, inspire, and empower kids and families.”
To register and join the fun, families can visit kaboom.org/playtogether. The dates and locations of each tour stop, slated to run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, are:

Disney Publishing Worldwide Announces Novel Based on Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants” to Be Written by Melissa de la Cruz
Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW) today announced the acquisition of a new book based on the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie, “Descendants,” featuring the teenage children of Disney’s most infamous villains, to be written by best-selling author Melissa de la Cruz (THE WITCHES OF EAST END, BLUE BLOODS.) The book, ISLE OF THE LOST, will be a prequel to the story told in the forthcoming film that will premiere on Disney Channel in 2015.
Legend has it that long ago, the most infamous villains were imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost, cut off from the rest of the world as a punishment for their misdeeds. In this dark and dreary place, the likes of Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella de Vil and the Evil Queen reside and evil reigns supreme. Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos are their descendants, the teenaged sons and daughters of the Isle’s most villainous characters, and they are coming of age on the Isle of the Lost.
Disney Publishing Worldwide SVP and Group Publisher Jeanne Mosure joined forces with Disney Channel to conceive a prequel novel that would act as a lead-in to the movie. Mosure then appointed de la Cruz and her longtime editor, Hyperion Editorial Director Emily Meehan, to the project and tasked them with fleshing out the backstory for the book in association with the film’s creative team.
Says de la Cruz, “I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to have been chosen for this fantastic project and to once again be working with Disney Publishing with whom I’ve had a long and wonderful relationship, and to be partnering with Disney Channel is beyond amazing. The opportunity to write and expand the story with these beloved characters is a dream come true for this Disney aficionado!” Adds Mosure, “It’s a joy to be working synergistically with the brilliant team at Disney Channel who have helmed some of the highest rated films in cable TV history and have allowed us to bring our creative engine to the table to help enhance this delightful story featuring classic Disney heritage characters.”
ISLE OF THE LOST: A Descendants Prequel will be published as a hardcover original and goes on sale May 5, 2015.
