Star Wars: The Force Awakens $8.1 Million Opening Weekend in 270 IMAX Theatres in China
IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) today announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released by The Walt Disney Studios, blasted into the Chinese market with a two-day opening gross of $8.1 million from 270 IMAX®theatres, making it the highest IMAX two-day opening weekend of all time in China, surpassing Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (with$6.6 million).
Globally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has amassed more than $179 million from 940 IMAX theatres, of which $108.7 millioncomes from 391 domestic IMAX sites and $70.3 million from 549 international locations (including China).
In addition to its record two-day opening weekend, Star Wars: The Force Awakens grossed $4.3 million on Saturday, setting a record for that day in IMAX in China. The film beat the previous Saturday record holder, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, with $3.5 million.

NEW “LION GUARD” ADVENTURE TO DEBUT AT DISNEY’S ANIMAL KINGDOM FEB. 7
Beginning Feb. 7, 2016, a new interactive experience, based on the hit Disney Channel movie “The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar,” will debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park at Walt Disney World® Resort.
The Lion Guard Adventure allows young Guests to become honorary members of the Lion Guard as they explore the park in search of five main characters from the popular TV movie – Kion, Bunga, Fuli, Beshte, and Ono. These characters are represented as colorful statues that are perfect for a kid-sized photo-ops.
Like the movie, the experience encourages interest in protecting animals and caring for nature. Once they complete the adventure, each child can take a special pledge to become an honorary member of “The Lion Guard” and receive a special button.
The experience will be offered in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park through late March, as one of many activities celebrating the debut of “The Lion Guard” series on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
