Disney California Adventure Park Celebrates the Bonds of Family and the Spirit of Día de los Muertos Beginning Sept. 15

This fall and winter, guests at Disney California Adventure Park will discover a new seasonal experience that celebrates the everlasting bonds of family while drawing inspiration from the traditional Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

From Sept. 15 through Nov. 2, this immersive celebration will include special entertainment featuring musicians and dancers, activities including a representation of iconic Mexican folk art, and special décor and food inspired by this lively, colorful tradition.

The celebration at Disney California Adventure features the upcoming Disney•Pixar animated motion picture, “Coco,” with special themed experiences inspired by the film. Select elements of the celebration will move to “a bug’s land” beginning Sunday, Nov. 5, where they will be presented alongside a special sneak peek of the film, which continues through the holiday season until Jan. 7, 2018.

Guests who cruise into Cars Land between Sept. 15-Oct. 31, 2017, will find that Ramone, one of the citizens of Cars Land, also pays tribute to Día de los Muertos. Ramone celebrates this time when families gather to remember their loved ones with a full-sized Sugar Skull Car and a traditional “ofrenda” display honoring the gone, but not forgotten, Doc Hudson.

Disneyland Park will continue to offer its traditional Día de los Muertos skeleton display in Frontierland, from Sept. 15-Nov. 2, 2017.

New Film in China Pavilion in Epcot Will Feature New Technology

During the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts presentation at D23 Expo 2017, several exciting updates from Epcot® were announced, including a peek at a new Space restaurantand two attractions coming to the park: a “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired attraction being added to Future World and a “Ratatouille”-inspired attraction being planned for the France pavilion in World Showcase. Today, we have more on how we’re enhancing an existing experience at the park.

Walt Disney Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald announced that Disney is creating a new film for the China pavilion at Epcot that’ll feature the splendor and majesty of that amazing country – and they’re doing it with some new technology.

Taking a cue from Walt Disney, who pioneered many different storytelling and motion picture innovations, we’ve developed a next-generation digital camera system, much as we did for Soarin’. Our teams are going to be taking this immersive camera system on the road first to film a brand new seamless Circle-Vision show for the China pavilion.

Disney showed the inner workings of its Avatar robot and it’s just incredible

Back at the end of May, Disney opened an Avatar-themed area (Pandora: World of Avatar) within its Animal Kingdom park. Given that it’s only been open for a few weeks, most folks still haven’t been inside — but if you do go, do yourself a favor and take the time to check out the Na’vi River Journey ride.

Nighttime Spectacular ‘Fantasmic!’ Returns to Disneyland Park with New Scenes and Dazzling Visual Effects

“Fantasmic!,” Disney’s popular and longest-running nighttime spectacular, returned to the Rivers of America in Disneyland Park July 17, 2017, with enhanced, awe-inspiring effects; innovative, state-of-the-art projection technology; and new storytelling elements.

The return of “Fantasmic!” builds on that promise, taking the journey into Mickey Mouse’s imagination to brilliant new heights. The story that has been treasured by Disneyland guests for more than 25 years continues, as Mickey Mouse conjures dreams of beauty, adventure, romance and, in the show’s thrilling climax, danger.

New magic is incorporated with Aladdin and Jasmine floating over a bed of fog on their flying carpet, Captain Jack Sparrow at the helm of a ghostly pirate ship, and special new appearances by characters from “The Lion King” and “Finding Nemo.” And Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from “Tangled” join other Disney couples in an inspiring romantic sequence.

Additional enhancements give the popular show an even brighter look, with more vibrant projections and new mist screens. Every inch of every surface on the show’s island “stage” has been digitally mapped. Projection mapping and three-dimensional video combine, allowing the creative team to transform the island as never before. All technical elements of the show, including lighting, fountains and water screens, have been upgraded.

The return of “Fantasmic!” also coincides with the return of some classic Disneyland attractions this summer. The Disneyland Railroad, Pirates’ Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and the watercraft that sail around the Rivers of America in Frontierland, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, all return on July 29, 2017.

This summer guests at Disneyland also have a last chance to view the lights, music and fun of the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade through Aug. 20, 2017. Nightly performances of the parade feature favorites such as Cinderella’s ball, Elliot, the smoke-breathing, tail-waggin’ “Pete’s Dragon” and the glittering “To Honor America” finale.

Guests this summer also will enjoy Summer of Heroes, a new, limited-time celebration at Disney California Adventure Park.  Guests are invited to experience epic adventures with some of their favorite Super Heroes through Sept.10, 2017, along with the new attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, which opened May 27, 2017.
