Mouser Electronics, Marvel and Grant Imahara Present New Empowering Innovation Together Series

Mouser Electronics, Inc., a leading global authorized distributor of the newest electronic components, today announced the launch of a new series in the second year of the Empowering Innovation Together™ program with former Mythbusters star and longtime Mouser customer, Grant Imahara. The new program will also see the debut of the Mouser Innovation Lab™, where Imahara and special guests will build several cutting-edge projects powered by the newest products and technologies from Mouser’s manufacturer partners.

In the first project Mouser will team up with Marvel to build Super Hero technology straight from the movie Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War — including real-life working versions of Captain America’s shield and Iron Man’s gauntlet. Grant Imahara will team up with viral video celebrity Allen Pan in a series of videos to highlight the full build process — from concept to the final unveiling. This first project is sponsored by Molex and Analog Devices, who will supply new, advanced parts for the challenging build.

“With Mouser combining engineering and Marvel’s characters into an entertaining and easy to understand STEM-oriented video segment, it will help students and others gain new insights into the technology field,” stated Mindy Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships at Marvel Entertainment LLC. “We enjoy working with any partner that helps to highlight the benefits that STEM brings to young minds.”

“I’m really excited to get into the new Mouser Innovation Lab and start working on these cool devices from the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Imahara. “I’ve seen several of Allen’s project videos. I can’t wait to see what we can come up with in the lab.”

“The goal of the Empowering Innovation Together program is to inspire and engage engineers of all ages — from students to millennials to lead engineers,” stated Glenn Smith, President and CEO of Mouser Electronics. “During the year we’ll be exploring space tech, pushing the boundaries of drone capabilities and even 3D printing a car.”

Mouser provides a unique perspective to the industry for such programs with its broad product line, unsurpassed customer service and industry-first interactive catalog with vast amounts of engineering and technical data. Mouser Electronics’ website is updated daily and searches more than 10 million products to locate more than four million orderable part numbers available for easy online purchase.

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort Expanding Solar Energy Collection Efforts with New Tampa Electric Installation

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort and Tampa Electric are partnering on a 2-megawatt solar energy project that will produce electricity — and shade — for visitors at the popular vacation destination, a project announced today as part of an Earth Day commemoration at the resort #BuiltForKids.

Beginning this spring, Tampa Electric will install a canopy of solar panels over the resort’s preferred parking lot, adjacent to the theme park entrance.  When operational later this year, the solar photovoltaic installation is estimated to produce enough electricity to power up to 250 homes annually, while shading more than 600 vehicles. Tampa Electric will own and maintain the solar array, with all power entering TECO’s electrical grid for the benefit of its more than 725,000 customers, including LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

The solar energy project is one of several ongoing environmental initiatives at the site, which includes the iconic theme park, a 5-acre water park and 152-room themed hotel. In order to manage resources in a sustainable and responsible way, the resort has established a “Green Wave” committee to coordinate the efforts of multiple departments. Recent efforts include:

Covered Parking 2

  • Nearly 1 ton of LEGO® brick has been collected on site for recycling. After melting or grinding the toys down to their core material, the plastic is then redistributed to manufacture new products.
  • In the theme park, the 12 electric vehicles at the Ford Junior Driving School attraction are charged entirely with solar power, letting kids take the wheel for a quiet, energy-efficient circuit around a mock road.
  • A 30-kilowatt solar panel array is mounted atop the park’s Imagination Zone venue.  The system supports Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program, which lets the company’s customers purchase a portion of their electricity from renewable sources.
  • Resort guests driving electric or hybrid vehicles can now take advantage of a two-car charging station recently installed in front of LEGOLAND Hotel.
  • Under the Citrus Connection Universal Access program, all Model Citizens employed at LEGOLAND Florida Resort can enjoy unlimited, seven-day-a-week rides on the transit agency’s bus routes throughout Polk County, resulting in 22,581 fewer vehicle trips on area roads in 2015.
  • During its first several months of operation in 2015, LEGOLAND Hotel distributed 384 bars of soap to Clean the World. The Florida nonprofit delivers recycled hygiene products donated by the hospitality industry to domestic homeless shelters and developing countries suffering from high death rates due to acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease.

Just wanted to post a couple of photos of the amazing Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  The variations in the sky each day make it worthwhile to take multiple photos of the Tree of Life while at the park.

We love this clear blue sky photo!

Does Epcot have to be for everyone?

This is a question which I obviously know the answer to for many different reasons.  Of course a company like Disney wants one of it’s main theme parks, second in attendance next to Magic Kingdom, to be a park that everyone is interested in attending.  I know the answer to that question is a resounding YES.  For business reasons, for marketing reasons, for optics, for a million other reasons.  It’s stupid to even consider the alternative.

So, let’s take up way too much space in “The Cloud” discussing just that.

Disney’s Newest Ride: Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

Disney’s Imagineers don’t always get it right. Luigi’s Flying Tires was one of three new rides in Cars Land when the expansion opened in Disney California Adventure in 2012. It was like a cross between bumper cars and air hockey: you sat in an oversized tire that hovered on air, and shifted your weight to try and make it float into other tires.
