Disney’s movie business has never looked stronger, and the company’s recent batch of movie announcements suggests a smart use of its entertainment properties. With breakout hits including Zootopia and The Jungle Book already on the books, and potential blockbusters including Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory, and a Star Wars flick still on deck, 2016 could be a record box office year for Disney.
Competitors from the Invictus Games Orlando 2016 were treated to a hero’s welcome at Magic Kingdom today. The athletes, representing many of the participating countries from around the world, took part in a parade down Main Street U.S.A. amid a sea of confetti along with celebrity ambassador and Olympic gold medal gymnast Shawn Johnson and Disney characters. The competitors and their families also spent some time today enjoying the theme park, experiencing some of the signature attractions such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
The Invictus Games, the only international adaptive sporting event for injured active duty and veteran service members, take place May 8-12, at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Started in 2014 by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, ill or injured servicemen and women who are transitioning into civilian life.

Meet grandmother Malaika, mother Makena and granddaughter Luna, a multigenerational giraffe family who live together on the Sunset Savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Malika was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and both Makeena and Luna were born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. These special ladies enjoy spending time together as a family each day in their spectacular home at Walt Disney World Resort, eating different plants and interacting with other animals on the savanna.

This week marks the 27th anniversary of the opening of the Disney-MGM Studios, now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The occasion comes as the park is beginning a major transformation that will bring new lands, new attractions, and even another new name. To make room for all of this, many long-time staples of the park are being closed or removed, perhaps the most symbolic of which is the Earffel Tower.
