New Retail MagicBands & Magic Keeper Colors Kicking off 2018

As you may know, with the introduction of MagicBand 2, guests now have the opportunity to  make their MagicBand truly customizable  by swapping out the center icon and placing it in a different color MagicBand or even one of our popular MagicKeeper accessories. With the debut of the I Am Mickey MagicBand, we have taken care of the customization for Guests. This item pays homage to Mickey Mouse in a new and sleek way with a black MagicBand and yellow center icon. This first ever pre-customized MagicBand is currently available for $22.99 wherever MagicBands are sold.

For the Aladdin and Jasmine admirers out there, our latest Limited Edition MagicBand for the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday depicts the couple on their moonlit carpet ride over Agrabah. This teal MagicBand is now available with an edition size of 2,400 and retails for $32.99.

You may have noticed over the past year some of your favorite attractions now have their very own MagicBand such as The Pirates of the Caribbean and The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Beginning Jan. 15, 2018, thrill seekers and fans of Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park will be able to purchase a red MagicBand complete with icons and patches representative of this train ride through the Himalayan Mountains. This Limited Release MagicBand will retail for $27.99.

Also, this month, in honor of the theatrical release of 101 Dalmatians in 1961, they’ll be releasing their first-ever MagicBand to feature Pongo, Perdita and a few of those famous paw prints. This white MagicBand will be available Jan. 22 online and in select retail locations throughout the Walt Disney World® Resort on Jan. 26, 2018 and retail for $22.99.

In addition, they have launched three new colors to our current MagicKeeper line: blue, pink and purple. These MagicKeepers allow even more customization as guests can swap icon colors to create new, fun looks.

As always, these MagicBands and MagicKeepers continue to allow guests to connect the vacation choices they make in My Disney Experience – from effortless theme-park entry, to Online Check-In, Disney PhotoPass association and more.

Disney THE LION GUARD-The Rise of Scar Review

“Unleash the Roar!”  If you have young children in your life, you are probably very familiar with this phrase from Disney Junior’s THE LION GUARD.  Being a huge fan of the original feature film The Lion King, I was excited to see that another generation would be able to enjoy the wonderful world of the Pridelands. THE LION GUARD-The Rise of Scar dvd includes the full-length adventure “The Rise of Scar.”  Filled with fun songs and lessons of friendship, this episode also teaches youngsters about the real struggles of the dry season and how that affects the animals that live in this ecosystem.  As a 5th grade science teacher, I love that Disney Junior teaches as well as entertains children. All of our favorite characters are back to help protect and help their animals friends including Kion, Ono, Fuli, Bunga and Beshte.  They are busy as tensions are high and patience is wearing thin as the elephants continue their search for a new watering hole for the herd and other animals. In this episode, Kion is introduced to a new friend named Makini who is an apprentice of Rafiki. She is lively, energetic, and eager to learn all she can from Rafiki. She does get into a bit of trouble with her bakora staff.  No spoilers here, but it is because of this that the villain Scar makes an appearance.  The dvd includes 4 other episodes from the series: “The Trouble with Galagos” (who look a whole lot like Gremlins to me), “Janja’s New Crew”, “Baboons!”, and “Lions of the Outlands.”  I was hoping for some bonus features because I love to watch Disney extras and behind the scenes footage, but to my disappointment there are none. Even so, THE LION GUARD-The Rise of Scar is fun for the whole family from little ones who are meeting the Guard for the first time to older children who are studying animals and their habitats in science class. As they say in the Guard “Zuka Zama!”  Pop up, and dive in with THE LION GUARD-The Rise of Scar. now on DVD.

Reimagined World of Disney Stores Coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in 2018

Shopping at Disney Parks is an adventure with hundreds of shops and boutiques to explore. The largest of these shops, World of Disney, has served as the “must see” destination for finding many beloved souvenirs from stylish apparel to home décor. Now, as part of continued enhancements to guests shopping experiences at Disney Parks, the World of Disney store locations in Disney Springs® at Walt Disney World® Resort and in Downtown Disney® District at Disneyland® Resort will be reimagined beginning in mid-February 2018.

When the interior redesign work is completed, guests will discover the products they love from Disney Parks in a dynamic and distinctly Disney retail environment.

Work will be completed in phases throughout 2018, so you can continue shopping in the World of Disney stores during construction.

Shops in Town Center at Disney Springs, such as Ever After Jewelry Co. or The Disney Corner (opening in mid-February), will carry select merchandise while World of Disney undergoes renovations.

At Downtown Disney District in California, World of Disney will remain open during the renovation. Additionally, you can find great shopping in the recently opened Dream Boutique, as well as the Disney Home store opening February 2018 in the former D-Street location.

Stay tuned for updates as the transformation progresses throughout 2018.

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Celebrates 25th Year Feb. 28-May 28, 2018

The 25th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will kick off spring at Walt Disney World Resort Feb. 28 and continue through May 28, 2018, with seasonal fun for all. What began in 1994 as a 38-day celebration of Disney-style gardens and topiaries has grown over the years to a 90-day spring extravaganza with something for every generation.

The 2018 festival, which takes place during the 35th anniversary of Epcot, will showcase millions of brilliant blossoms, flavor-rich cuisine from 15 Outdoor Kitchens, Disney topiary stars, interactive play gardens and live chart-topping musical acts during the Garden Rocks Concert Series.

The 90-day festival will open with an irresistible array of sights, sounds, tastes, aromas and tactile discoveries:

  • New and creative dishes will debut at 15 Outdoor Kitchens encircling the World Showcase Promenade. Guests can sip and savor their way around Epcot, enjoying chef-inspired noshes and refreshing libations.
  • A bonanza of Disney character topiaries, including classic-character favorites Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and many others, will play a starring festival role. Returning this year, Belle will be featured in France along with Beast, Snow White in Germany with the Seven Dwarfs, and Anna and Elsa in Norway.
  • A brand-new Future World interactive play garden and a revved-up Road to Florida 500 garden featuring new games and play challenges will set the pace for family festival fun. The new interactive area in Future World will feature a play maze, a sensory garden, an activity zone and a covered seating area. The redesigned “Cars”-themed garden based on the Disney•Pixar sequel, “Cars 3,” will add more fun activities like highway bingo for families.
  • A brand-new Epcot front-entrance topiary garden will set the milestone anniversary scene with a kaleidoscope of blooming color where topiary icons Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy will greet festival guests.
  • The popular Garden Rocks Concert Series will feature hit makers of the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s on the America Gardens Theatre stage. Three evening concerts each Friday through Monday present musicians that span multiple genres.
  • Garden Rocks Dining Packages will be available on select days at a number of Epcot restaurants.

Each Outdoor Kitchen will feature its own raised-bed or in-ground garden of herbs and produce that can inspire the growing numbers of guests who want to learn to grow what they eat.

“The culture of growing your own food continues to trend, and our guests each year have quite a few questions related to edible gardens,” says Eric Darden, festival horticulture manager. “They get a big kick comparing items in our gardens with the herbs and produce our chefs incorporate into the festival’s Outdoor Kitchen recipes.”

And there’s more:

  • The back-by-demand Figment topiary garden between Future World and World Showcase will offer the perfect selfie backdrop and family photo opportunity.
  • The Royal Tea Garden Tour will return for a second year each festival morning at the United Kingdom pavilion. For a small fee, guests can follow a knowledgeable guide through the tranquil tea garden setting to learn the history and artistry behind growing and blending tea. A post-tour treat of tea and scones is included. The shorter, complimentary English Tea Garden Tour also will be offered on select days.
  • Among the nearly 100 festival topiaries will be returning favorites like the pandas and Bromeliad dragon at the China pavilion, The Three Caballeros at the Mexico pavilion, Disney-Pixar’s Woody at the American Adventure pavilion and Buzz Lightyear in Future World.

Dozens of Disney-crafted “flower towers” and beds of multi-colored blooms will transform the park’s landscape. At least 70,000 bedding plants will surround the Future World east and west lakes alone; on the water, 220 mini-gardens will be set afloat.

For more information about the 25th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, call 407/W-DISNEY (934-7639). As the festival nears, more details will be available at EpcotInSpring.com. The festival, including all gardens and exhibits, is included in regular Epcot admission.
