Stay in the Middle of All the Magic During the Holidays at Walt Disney World Resort

A stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is always magical, immersing guests in elaborately themed worlds and offering unparalleled service. During the holidays, stays become even better with spectacular displays and other festive decor at select resorts.

Holiday festivities augment the numerous benefits guests enjoy any time they stay at a Disney resort hotel, including complimentary airport shuttles and transportation to and from the theme parks and Disney Springs, Extra Magic Hours in the theme parks and early access to FastPass+ planning.

Here is a sampling of holiday happenings and decor coming to select resort hotels this year at Walt Disney World:

• Gingerbread Houses – Intricate, edible and life-size creations will be on display in the lobbies of select hotels. Guests at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will find an 18-foot-tall re-creation of Cinderella Castle made with thousands of gingerbread blocks, rolled fondant and modeling chocolate.

The gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. Home to The Bake Shop, it’s the perfect place to pick up holiday treats. The Bake Shop uses a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria to make its gingerbread houses, ornaments, and cookies. Decorating demos will also be available to guests starting Dec. 1.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will feature a miniature holiday village complete with a miniature train. And Disney’s Beach Club Resort is home to a life-size and edible spinning carousel, with horses themed to Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and classic Christmas themes.

• Holiday Decor – Garland, tinsel, wreaths and ornaments will adorn the walls and pillars of resort hotels across Walt Disney World. The festive decor will help every guest get into the spirit of the season. Decor reflects the story of each resort hotel, including festive trees with ornaments inspired by the resort’s theme.

Christmas trees towering up to 70 feet tall become the centerpieces at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Each tree will display large ornaments that pick up on the resort’s theme and will make for a perfect selfie spot.

• New Year’s Eve Celebrations – Count down to 2019 with New Year’s Eve celebrations that only Disney can deliver. Guests can choose between two parties at Disney’s Contemporary Resort – Pixar Party: A New Year’s Eve Celebration and Disney Countdown to Midnight. Both parties include breathtaking views of the Magic Kingdom New Year’s Eve fireworks, along with food, drink, music and entertainment. There is even a VIP upgrade, The Ink and Paint Club, which guests can add to the Disney Countdown to Midnight party. Ticketed guests can visit the lounge throughout the evening, starting with a featured reception prior to the beginning of the party.

The Walt Disney Company and Make-A-Wish® Invite Fans to “Share Your Ears” to Help Grant Wishes in Celebration of 90 Years of Mickey Mouse

The Walt Disney Company today launched its 2018 Share Your Ears campaign, benefiting Make-A-Wish. The campaign kicked off during Mickey’s 90th Spectacular on ABC tonight with a segment from Robin Roberts, award-winning broadcaster and co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, on the significance of wish granting. The elegant affair featured star-studded musical performances and moving tributes in celebration of 90 years of Mickey Mouse.

For the third year in a row, Disney is supporting Make-A-Wish by inviting fans to share their ears on social media to grant more wishes. From now through November 17, 2018, Disney will donate US $5, up to a total of US $2 million, to Make-A-Wish for every public photo posted showing off “Mickey Mouse ears”—or any creative “ears”—on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #ShareYourEars.

“Make-A-Wish does such vital work and I am excited to be part of an initiative that will help make wishes come true for even more children,” said Roberts.

Guests who visit Disney stores throughout the campaign can decorate a pair of paper Mickey Mouse ears, snap a picture in the #ShareYourEars photo frame and post their pictures to social media with #ShareYourEars to celebrate Mickey’s 90th and make a difference (Disney stores in U.S. and Canada only; outlet locations excluded).

In addition, beginning tomorrow, guests at various Disney Parks around the world can #ShareYourEars with special photo opportunities, including uniquely themed photo walls at select locations created exclusively for the campaign by Walt Disney Imagineering. Disney Cruise Line guests can #ShareYourEars with a special onboard photo opportunity using iconic ship elements as a backdrop to provide the famous “ears.”

“It is a tremendous honor to support children whose wish is to come to Disney. Wish granting exemplifies the magic our 160,000 cast members and Imagineers create for guests all over the world every day,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. “With this third Share Your Ears campaign, we’ll get to make a difference in the lives of even more children and families.”

Disney has helped grant more than 130,000 wishes during its 40-year partnership with Make-A-Wish, including one out of every two wishes in the United States. Chapek also recently joined the Make-A-Wish America board of directors.

During the campaign, ABC, Disney Channel and Freeform will feature messages from popular actors and performers across multiple platforms encouraging viewers to #ShareYourEars. Social media handles and celebrities from across the company will also post #ShareYourEars photos and videos. Disney Theatrical Productions will celebrate with audiences on Broadway, providing campaign information in Playbills for The Lion KingAladdin and Frozen.

ESPN will run #ShareYourEars digital ads across its media platforms, along with on-air and ESPN Radio promotions. In addition, ESPN personalities will support the program on social media.

Disney and Make-A-Wish have a long-standing history together. Since 1980, when Disney was part of the first official wish, the company has helped Make-A-Wish fulfill experiences that not only brighten lives for a special moment, but also help wish kids and their families replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. Currently, more than 10,000 Disney wishes are granted every year, and the number continues to grow.

“We are thrilled to once again join forces with The Walt Disney Company for the Share Your Ears campaign to provide people with a fun, family-friendly way to make a lasting, impactful difference in the lives of children with critical illnesses,” said Holly Thomas, vice president of corporate alliances for Make-A-Wish America.

Jon Stettner, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish International added, “We are so grateful to Disney, and its guests and fans worldwide, for their ongoing support. Disney’s continued generosity strengthens our global organization and allows us to grant life-changing wishes in more than 50 countries. We are delighted to be a part of the third year of this incredible campaign.”

Share Your Ears is part of the Disney Team of Heroes philanthropic initiative and outreach program to deliver comfort and inspiration to families around the world. In March 2018, The Walt Disney Company made a five-year, US $100 million commitment to reinvent the patient and family experience in children’s hospitals and is working with children’s wish-granting organizations around the world to fulfill wishes for children facing critical illnesses.

Disney World has been transformed for the holidays; see the photos

The calendar may say Nov. 2 and it may be 72 degrees in Orlando but it’s officially Christmastime in the Magic Kingdom.

Santa’s elves – by which we mean Disney World employees – were hard at work on between Wednesday night and Thursday, putting up all of the amusement park’s holiday decorations. By Thursday morning, all the autumn leaves, straw and carved pumpkins were gone from Main Street, replaced by wreaths of holly and poinsettias.

Disney VAMPIRINA Ghoul Girls Rock! DVD Review

Disney Junior’s Vampirina is the the “it” girl, or ghoul, of the year! In October we were lucky enough to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. We saw some of the cutest little Vampirinas playing in the park and rocking the Magic Kingdom. The costumes were fantastic. Vampirina is such a great character. She teaches the importance of being yourself and how to be accepting of others even if they are different. (Pretty sure some grown ups in this country could use that lesson as well).  In Disneys Vampirina Ghoul Girls Rock!, Vampirina, Poppy, Bridget and the whole gang go through the ups and downs that come with being a kid, even a vampire kid. As a person who isn’t too thrilled with getting up in front of a crowd, I really liked the episode “The Ghoul Girls” because they talked about how it is ok to be nervous to go on stage. It is great to see a show acknowledge these emotions and not just act like everyone is always perfect in every situation.  In “Game Night” Poppy and Bridget find their voices and tell Vee that they don’t like the same game she likes. Instead of getting mad at them, Vee sees things from their side and realizes she didn’t even try to play their games. Again, I just love the lessons in Vampirina. At my school, SEL (Social Emotional Learning ) is part of the curriculum because so many students just are not getting these lessons at younger ages.  These episodes teach exactly what I am trying to get across to my kiddos in class. In a world where people interact less and less because of technology, a young ghoul from Transylvania may be the answer to many of society’s issues. Vampirina Ghoul Girls Rock! is full of fun friendship lessons, fantastic songs, and wacky adventures that children of all ages will enjoy.
