Remembering Walt Disney Archives founder Dave Smith

Walt Disney Archives founder Dave Smith passed away in Burbank, California, on February 15, 2019. He was 78. Dave dedicated his four-decade career at The Walt Disney Company to preserving Disney’s precious treasures from film, television, theme parks, and beyond. Named a Disney Legend in 2007, Dave was beloved by fans around the world for his wide knowledge of the Company’s rich history, which he shared in books and through his popular magazine column “Ask Dave.”

CAPTAIN MARVEL LANDS ON THE NEW COVER OF DISNEY TWENTY-THREE

This March, Marvel Studios’ epic new adventure Captain Marvel flies into theaters, and Disney twenty-three was on set during production. The new movie explores the origin story of Carol Danvers, who just might be the most powerful Super Hero ever. Stars Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson talk about making this groundbreaking film, as well as how they have become good friends—Jackson loves to show off the impressive iPhone video Larson sent him of the grueling training she endured to transform into the courageous character. Step Into the Internet with Ralph and Vanellope at Epcot

Ralph and Vanellope from Disney’s animated adventure “Ralph Breaks the Internet” have been meeting their fans at Disney Parks since last fall, when their movie debuted in theaters. Starting this week, you can find these best friends in an all-new location at Epcot®.

The staff of the Imagination Institute is now conducting a new experiment, creating a portal into other dimensions. That portal has opened a window on the internet for Ralph and Vanellope to step through, right into the ImageWorks area of the Imagination! pavilion, where Guests can meet with them every day.

The hit film “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is now available on Digital and comes to Blu-ray on Feb. 26, 2019. Available for the first time on 4K Ultra HD!

Mariachi Cobre Present the Story of ‘Coco’ at Epcot This Spring

At Epcot®, you can explore World Showcase and discovering more about each of the countries represented. And now more than ever, it’s a place where Guests can experience the culture of those countries, as well as the wonderful stories they’ve inspired.

Beginning March 6, 2019, the tender story and vibrant music of Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” comes to the Mexico pavilion, courtesy of the incomparable Mariachi Cobre.

The immensely talented musicians of Mariachi Cobre are joined by a pair of Folklórico dancers to tell the tale of Miguel Rivera, his love of music, and his journey to find what matters most – his familia. The dancers perform to the music of the film, pulling everyone into the celebration, and Miguel himself appears in the form of a whimsical, hand-crafted puppet.

This new “Coco”-inspired show expands the repertoire of Mariachi Cobre, who will also continue enchanting guests at the Mexico pavilion with performances of traditional mariachi music.

This spring, you can gather their familia asMariachi Cobre presents the story and music of “Coco,” beginning March 6, 2019, during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.

Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration Coming Soon to the Disneyland Resort

Disneyland® Resort is introducing an all-new, must-see pop-up experience at the Downtown Disney® District. Coming this spring, Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration will transport you through a visually and whimsically immersive experience celebrating 90 years of the one and only Mickey Mouse, and his darling, Minnie Mouse.

This limited-time exhibition will feature several different imaginatively themed rooms with vivid displays inspired by all things Mickey Mouse. Every room will feature selfie-worthy surprises and provide plenty of fun and fabulous photo ops.

One such surprise will be a super-sized and super sweet bow sofa. In this area, Guests can pop into the portrait and take a seat on Minnie’s plush sofa or pose under Minnie’s giant bows and hearts.  

This separately ticketed exhibit will be located near the Downtown Disney District Monorail station in the former space of ESPN Zone. Tickets will go on sale soon. Stay tuned for more details!

Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration is another fantastic example of the excitement and evolution of entertainment, dining and shopping in the Downtown Disney District. Most recently, we welcomed Ballast Point Brewing Company, Salt & Straw scoop shop, the re-designed Wetzel’s Pretzels, Naples Ristorante e Bar, Napolini Pizzeria and the re-imagined World of Disney!

The new 10,000 square-foot store will be opening its doors in late 2019 near The Polite Pig and will be filled with favorite beach and vacation essentials. Join Super Heroes During Disneyland After Dark: Heroes Assemble

Step into the Super Hero universe during Disneyland® After Dark: Heroes Assemble at Disney California Adventure® Park! This special, after-park hours occasion will feature an action-packed line-up of experiences.

Super Hero fans of all ages are invited to experience the ultimate treat: incredible entertainment, character encounters, event-themed food, merchandise and more—all themed to some favorite Super Hero stories. Guests will also have access to select attractions in Disney California Adventure Park, such as the exhilarating Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! 

Fans can choose to attend Disneyland After Dark: Heroes Assemble during either April 30 or May 1, 2019 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night. 

Your Clients can dust off their shields, hammers and suits of armor and come dressed in their Super Hero-best attire. Each night will feature:

  • Epic entertainment, including a rockin’ dance party and heroic show moments.
  • Encounters with admired Super Heroes.
  • Park-wide scavenger hunt to find hidden artifacts—helping to save mankind!
  • Immersive photo opportunities and gallant décor, as well as themed food, beverage and merchandise offerings.
  • Fun surprises to celebrate 80 years of comic art.
  • Unlimited digital downloads of your Disney PhotoPass photos captured during the event.

Parking fees are not included in the ticket price. A limited quantity of tickets for both event nights will be available beginning next week:

  • Feb. 19: Tickets on sale for Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders
  • Feb. 21: Tickets on sale for general public

The number of tickets available are limited and valid only for the specific event date and hours. Parking fees are not included in the ticket price. Tickets can be purchased by calling (714) 781-4636 until the day before the event, or at any Disneyland Resort ticket booth until the day of the event—subject to availability.
