Presented exclusively aboard the Disney Magic, it’s the first-ever stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, “Tangled.” Combining a heartfelt story, an enchanting score and lavish production numbers, the new musical showcases the thrilling adventure of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider as they face ruffians, thugs and a budding romance on an exhilarating journey of self-discovery.

977-seat Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Magic cruise ship. Featuring an elegant Art Deco style, the theater spans the width of the ship and encompasses three decks, which include orchestra and balcony seating. The state-of-the-art venue features the latest theatrical technology to help bring to life original productions and Disney stories in a whole new way.

Production:

Disney assembled an all-star creative team to develop this extravagant production. Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (“Tangled,” “The Little Mermaid”) and Grammy Award-winning lyricist Glenn Slater (“Tangled”) created three new songs exclusively for this show. Other top-notch theatrical talent included Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young (“Peter and the Starcatcher”), master puppet designer Michael Curry (Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway), set designer Bradley Kaye (Disney’s “Aladdin—A Musical Spectacular”), director Gordon Greenberg and choreographer Connor Gallagher.

“Tangled: The Musical” was produced by Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, which has received acclaim for its productions around the world, including “Finding Nemo – The Musical” (Walt Disney World Resort in Florida), “Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story” (Disney Cruise Line) and “The Golden Mickeys” (Hong Kong Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line).

Fun Facts:

  • Rapunzel’s story begins with a magical flower, but more than 200 physical flowers have been drawn, painted, carved, sewn and otherwise “planted” in scenic elements, costumes and even Rapunzel’s hair.
  • “Tangled: The Musical” features 15scenes and seven
  • More than 40scenic elements bring the fairytale locales of “Tangled: The Musical” to life.
  • The 15-foot-tall tower features more than 20glowing flowers hidden in a mural design.
  • The mural in Rapunzel’s tower set piece was designed by Claire Keane, who created the original mural design for the animated “Tangled” film.
  • Every set piece for “Tangled: The Musical” was sculpted and painted by hand.
  • Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young developed 125costumes using more than 200 different types of fabrics.
  • Rapunzel’s royal dress that appears in the show’s final scene is made of custom fabric developed especially for this show.
  • The dazzling costumes are made complete with 85pairs of shoes and 60
  • It takes more than 200 feet of hair to bring Rapunzel’s famous golden tresses to life onstage.

GOING INSIDE THE DREAM SUITE AND WALT DISNEY’S APARTMENT AT DISNEYLAND

It’s hard to dislike the classic theme park of course, but if you’re a superfan, as I’d consider myself, there are a few places within the park that you’re aware are very difficult to gain access to – some nearly impossible, in fact.

Disney Springs West Side

AMC Disney Springs 24 Theatres — 24 separate auditoriums with stadium seating in 18 theaters for unobstructed viewing. Includes six Fork & Screen dine-in theatres featuring menu items from quesadillas to flatbread pizzas. Reserved seating and table-top dining available.

Bongos Cuban Cafe — Upbeat restaurant created by Emilio and Gloria Estefan brings the sizzle of Miami’s South Beach with Cuban cuisine and Latin rhythms.

Characters in Flight operated by Aerophile — An iconic tethered balloon that lifts guests some 400 feet into the sky, offering breathtaking views of Walt Disney World Resort and beyond.

Cirque du Soleil — The theatrical show La Nouba is filled with action, humor, color and light, blending the ancient traditions of circus with dance, acrobatics and street entertainment. The Cirque du Soleil Boutique is located in the Lobby-Plaza level.

Curl by Sammy Duvall — The place for high-end surfing gear, clothing and accessories including eyewear, watches, footwear, electronics and surfboards.

DisneyQuest — The ultimate interactive adventure. A 100,000-square-foot indoor, interactive theme park with five floors fueled by electronic Disney innovation including virtual reality, 3D encounters and classic video games. Includes The Wonderland Café for desserts and drinks, and FoodQuest for quick-service dining.  The DisneyQuest Emporium is a themed shopping experience located on the first floor of DisneyQuest.

Disney’s Candy Cauldron — Sweets shop offering treats like candy apples and fudge whipped up in an open candy kitchen.

Fit2Run — An athletics store features runner’s apparel, performance sunglasses and more. Fit2Run’s complimentary video-taped gait analysis and iStep barometric scanning helps runners find the best fit for footwear.

House of Blues — Live music every night including blues, jazz, country and rock with Mississippi delta cuisine. The world-famous Sunday Gospel Brunch is offered select Sunday mornings. The House of Blues Gear Shop includes exclusive collection of clothing, glassware, hot sauces, collectibles and art.

Orlando Harley-Davidson Store  The largest and most interactive Harley-Davidson store of its kind featuring apparel from T-shirts to leather jackets, plus an array of gifts and collectibles. Splitsville Luxury Lanes — Upscale bowling with a full-scale restaurant complete with two floors, two patios and two sushi bars. With 30 high-tech bowling lanes, outdoor seating and live entertainment, Splitsville guests can bowl and dine lane-side, or skip the lanes for full-service dining inside or on the patio. Memory Lanes merchandise store is located on the first floor of Splitsville.

Starbucks at Disney Springs West Side — Starbucks espresso, frozen specialty beverages, savory Artisan sandwiches and an assortment of pastries are offered at this unique Starbucks location.

Finally, festival space at Epcot by Scott Shindeldecker

The time has come to finish up this pavilion imagineering so that I can move along to talk about some other things.

I know you are all screaming “Nooooo, we’ve loved the 10,000 words devoted to something that will never happen!  Can we get 10,000 more?”

I’m pretty sure I can find a way to do that again in the future, but for now, it’s time to address the thing that started this pavilion out in the first place: festival space.
