Walt Disney Records Celebrates 60 Years

Walt Disney Records (WDR) is proud to celebrate its 60th anniversary with the music that has been enchanting and entertaining audiences for generations.  To kick off the celebration, Alan Menken will participate in a special event at the Grammy Museum on June 1, “An Evening with Alan Menken,” which includes a Q&A and culminates with a special performance.  One of the most admired and prolific musical talents of our time, this Academy Award®, Grammy Award®, and Golden Globe Award® winner is responsible for unforgettable Disney classics including “Part of Your World” (“Little Mermaid”), “Under the Sea” (“Little Mermaid”), “Be Our Guest” (“Beauty and the Beast”), “Beauty and the Beast” (“Beauty and the Beast”), “A Whole New World” (“Aladdin”), “Colors of the Wind” (“Pocahontas”), “The Bells of Notre Dame” (“Hunchback of Notre Dame“),  “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love)” (“Hercules”) and “I See the Light” (“Tangled”).

To commemorate the label’s milestone, 60 titles will be available on sale at Apple Music (http://smarturl.it/wdr60thsale), Amazon (http://smarturl.it/wdr60tham), and Google Play, plus Spotify’s playlist highlights the most beloved musical classics and current hits from Disney movies, television shows, and theme parks (http://smarturl.it/wdr60thsp).

The selected albums and tracks represent numerous key releases that have been important to the label and The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) such as “Some Day My Prince Will Come” from Snow White (first soundtrack), “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio (theme song for TWDC), “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” (first single from a television show), “Monkey’s Uncle” byAnnette Funicello (the label’s first teen sensation), tracks from Mary Poppins (album held the #1 position on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart for 14 weeks) and “Hakuna Matata” from The Lion King (soundtrack earned WDR its first Diamond Award from the R.I.A.A., certifying sales of 10 million units).   Also highlighted is the chart-topping multi-platinum Frozen soundtrack, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney-Pixar classics (Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Inside Out and more), plus albums and songs from Disney Channel Original Movies and series including and High School Musical and Hannah Montana.

The special 60th Anniversary commemorative artwork was designed by UK-based graphic artist Steven Wilson.

Celebrating 60 years, Walt Disney Records has set the standard as the leader in family audio entertainment. The label has earned more than 300 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards from the R.I.A.A, and several of its releases rank among the top-selling singles and soundtracks of all time.  Over the last decade, the label has helped preserve Disney’s rich musical history by the restoration of its earliest recordings and re-mastering of classic soundtracks in an effort to keep the legacy and musical spirit of Disney alive for future generations.

‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Set Leaks: Fully Costumed Rey Hints At Possible Scenes With Luke Skywalker & Kylo Ren

Things are getting pretty serious over in Malin Head. Last week, Star Wars: Episode 8 set photos emerged from the Northern coast of Ireland. These images showcased set construction and local interaction, but not much else. Then three days ago, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill landed at Belfast International Airport, together. Could this be coincidence? I think not!

UGG Unveils New Flagship Store at Disney Springs

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its first retail store in SoHo, Manhattan, UGG® (a division of Deckers Brands) (NYSE: DECK) opened its new flagship store today in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The new location features a unique retail design that celebrates the brand’s heritage while revealing its vision for the future. This will be followed by additional flagship doors opening in Shanghai, Tokyo and New York City later this year.

UGG® at Disney Springs opens on the heels of the brand announcing its first global women’s brand ambassador, supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who will be the face of be the biggest re-launch the brand has seen in 37 years. With these exciting developments, UGG® further cements its place as a global lifestyle brand.

“Our new retail environment is the pinnacle UGG brand experience. It honors our history, celebrates the present and offers a glimpse into our exciting future,” says Stefano Caroti, President of Omni-Channel, Deckers Brands. “As a physical expression of the UGG life, visitors are transported directly into the comfort of the casual California lifestyle, the home of UGG.”

The 2,828-square-foot retail space is located in Disney Springs’ new Town Center neighborhood, which features Spanish “Revival” style architecture inspired by the rich history of explorers who landed in Florida centuries ago. UGG® at Disney Springs showcases the brand’s Southern California roots via natural warmth and sumptuous comfort. The store, designed in partnership with Checkland Kindleysides of the UK, comes to life through a soft-focus color palette to create a highly compelling and emotive premium brand experience.

“Our new store concept is more than a place where boots are sold. It’s an environment where the brand lives,” said Anders Bergstrom, Director of Insights and Design Strategy. “Our intention is to give every guest who visits our store the opportunity to experience the complete UGG lifestyle firsthand.”

The new retail space will have dedicated areas for men’s, women’s, kid’s and lifestyle including loungewear, handbags, accessories and home goods. To celebrate the grand opening of the new Disney Springs location, a limited-edition UGG® Classic Short Boot will feature Swarovski elements inspired by some of Disney’s most beloved characters – Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Tinkerbell. Disney’s food magic begins in the Flavor Lab

Dozens of new food and beverage creations will be on the menu at Disney World this summer, ranging from the spicy “El Diablo Burger” at D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs to a refined, ceviche-style octopus – served with artichokes, capers, Kalamata olives, tomatoes and a saffron aioli – at Tiffins, a much-anticipated upscale restaurant at Animal Kingdom.
