Disney Begins Production on New ‘Muppet Babies’ Series, Slated to Debut in Early 2018

Disney has begun production on a reimagined “Muppet Babies” television series, which chronicles the playroom antics of the beloved Kermit the Frog, Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and Miss Nanny. A co-production between Disney Junior, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media’s (DCPI) Content & Media group, and The Muppets Studio, the CG-animated series is slated to debut on Disney Junior in early 2018.

Nancy Kanter, executive vice president, Original Programming and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide, said, “We are proud, and a little bit giddy, to begin production on our new version of the much-loved ‘Muppet Babies.’ Parents will delight in seeing their favorite Muppets in the mixed animation style they remember from the original series, and kids will be introduced to this warm and zany world made just right for the Disney Junior audience.”

Geared towards kids 4-7, each episode will feature two 11-minute stories that follow the Muppet Babies on various adventures – from building a time machine to flying through outer space – as they let their imaginations take them to the farthest corners of the universe. The stories are designed to highlight creative and critical thinking skills by harnessing the power and potential of imaginative play.

DCPI Content & Media and The Muppets Studio recognized the nostalgia, fandom, and demand for Muppet Babies by tapping into insights gleaned from their digital and social media channels and together they set the creative direction for the new series.

“Bringing ‘Muppet Babies’ to Disney Junior is a wonderful opportunity to reach a new generation of viewers and to creatively build on the innovative original series,” said Debbie McClellan, vice president, The Muppets Studio. “We hope to engage and delight the nostalgic fans while also entertaining new kids, parents and diverse audiences through heart and humor as only the Muppets can deliver.”

Tom Warburton (“The 7D”) will serve as executive producer and Emmy Award-winner Eric Shaw (“SpongeBob SquarePants”) is story editor.

“ONCE UPON A TIME” PROJECTION SHOW BEGINS NOVEMBER 4 AT MAGIC KINGDOM PARK

Classic Disney fairy tales light up Cinderella Castle as the projection show “Once Upon a Time” debuts at Magic Kingdom® Park at Walt Disney World® Resort on Nov. 4, 2016.

This new show uses projection-mapping technology to produce a dazzling three-dimensional effect that fits every nook and contour of the Castle, from its base to the tips of its towers and turrets.

The result: Cinderella Castle opens like a storybook and becomes living art, the canvas for a kaleidoscopic and eye-filling feast of fantasy.

Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the timeless animated classic, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” the new projection show is narrated by Mrs. Potts who shares “once upon a time” bedtime stories with Chip.

Projected scenes let you relive some of your favorite Disney moments. They’ll fly with Peter Pan high above the rooftops of London to Never Land, drop in on a whimsical tea party hosted by the Mad Hatter and watch Winnie the Pooh rise to the top of the Castle while he hangs from a colorful balloon. And these are just some of the enchanting tales that come to life in “Once Upon a Time.”

The awe-inspiring show culminates with classic scenes from “Beauty and the Beast” – the Beast waltzing with his beloved Belle, his duel with Gaston, and finally his transformation back to the Prince. As Mrs. Potts and Chip conclude their bedtime story, the show moves to its grand finale including appearances by characters from some of Disney’s most beloved animated tales. Fireworks bursting above the Castle add to the magic.

“Once Upon a Time” takes its inspiration from a projection show that has thrilled guests at Tokyo Disney Resort since May 2014. The new show replaces the “Celebrate the Magic” Castle projection show that will end its four-year run on Nov. 3, 2016.
