‘Rogue One’ Officially Makes Disney Hollywood’s First $7 Billion Studio
An impressive opening weekend for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was more than enough to help Walt Disney capture a new Hollywood record for yearly global box office gross.
Walt Disney Records Releases Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Walt Disney Records released the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story soundtrack, which features score by Oscar® and Grammy® award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The original motion picture soundtrack is available at streaming services and wherever music is sold. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens in U.S. theaters today, December 16, 2016.
Acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino marks his first-ever feature collaboration with Lucasfilm for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Recorded at Sony Scoring Stage, the score features a 110-piece orchestra and 80-person choir conducted by Tim Simonec.
Michael Giacchino said, “It has been a great honor to have been asked to score ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ and I am humbled to have had the opportunity to contribute to the musical universe that inspired me so as a kid. Back in 1977, long before I knew I was going to be a film composer, I spent countless hours listening to the original ‘Star Wars’ double LP on my small RCA Stereo in my bedroom. In a sense, John Williams was my very first music teacher. All these years later, John continues to be an inspiration.”
He continued, “As with all the film scores I compose, my goal is to reflect and serve the story and emotions of the film. I have to admit, the 10-year-old part of my brain had a wonderful time composing for this new and exciting set of ‘Star Wars’ characters and the worlds they inhabit.”
Giacchino’s credits feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including Marvel Studio’s “Doctor Strange,” Disney•Pixar’s “Inside Out,” “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille,” as well as “Star Trek Beyond,” “Jurassic World,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” His score for Disney•Pixar’s 2009 feature “Up” earned him an Oscar, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA®, the Broadcast Film Critics’ Choice Award and two Grammy Awards.
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The story is by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, and the screenplay is by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy.

The Best (and Worst) Days to Visit Disney World in 2017
Let’s face it: planning a trip to Walt Disney World isn’t easy. Even after you make the reservations, book the FastPasses, and pack up the family’s luggage, you could roll up to the parks only to discover 30,000 runners and their families have descended upon Orlando for a princess-themed half marathon.
‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ May Bring Back Another Franchise Star, But It’s Kind Of A Spoiler
Production on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth film in the multi-billion dollar franchise, has been done for awhile now. But it appears there may be one more addition to the cast that we hadn’t heard about, someone from one of the previous films in the franchise who will be brought back alongside other returning cast members like Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner.

Pro Bowlers to Face Off in AFC vs. NFC Skills Challenge at Disney
The Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, pitting AFC and NFC All-Stars against each other in unique competitions, will air during Pro Bowl Week on Thursday, January 26 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN, the NFL announced Dec. 12.
The Skills Showdown is a part of the re-imagined Pro Bowl Week, culminating in the 2017 Pro Bowl, which features a return to the traditional AFC vs. NFC format following three years using a revised, “unconferenced” structure.
The 2017 Pro Bowl Legends Captains, Jerome Bettis and Ray Lewis of the AFC and Tony Gonzalez and Charles Woodson of the NFC, will lead their respective squads. Each team in the Skills Showdown will feature a mix of quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs.
Taking place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., competitions will include:
- Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball: Pro Bowlers will compete in a game of dodgeball.
- Power Relay Challenge: Four team members will compete in a timed relay race.
- Precision Passing: Two players on each team will battle it out, trying to hit moving targets of varying size and distance.
- Best Hands: Quarterback and wide receiver duos from each team will show off their skills, connecting on as many pass attempts as possible before time runs out.
The Pro Bowl rosters are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players who will be selected to the Pro Bowl. The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-star teams. It was the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.
The Pro Bowl players will be announced on Tuesday, December 20 in a live primetime special on NFL Network. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on Friday, December 16.
Fan voting for the 2017 Pro Bowl will end tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13. Fans can vote online and on web-enabled mobile phones at www.NFL.com/probowlvote. Fans may also vote for who they want to see on the 2017 Pro Bowl roster via social media by using #ProBowlVote and the player’s first and last name on Twitter and Instagram. On Facebook, fans may comment on any official Pro Bowl Vote post by the NFL or a club. See official rules on how to vote at www.NFL.com/probowlvoterules.com.
The 2017 Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, January 29, 2017 and simulcast live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes from Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Fans may visit NFL.com/ProBowlOnSale to purchase game tickets.
PHOTOS: Take a peek inside Walt Disney’s former CA home
The former home of innovator Walt Disney is for sale in Palm Springs. The 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom stucco home was constructed for Disney in 1962 and will cost buyers $899,000.
The house was owned by the Disney family until 2015 — and Disney’s influence can be seen in the home’s colors, design and art deco influences.
Forget Rogue One, Disney Is Rebuilding the Entire Star Wars Universe
Star Wars once had a rich, painstakingly produced canon beyond its three original movies. Hundreds of authors, artists, and game developers drew from the stories told by creator George Lucas, crafting what would be called the Expanded Universe. For decades, they wrote books about the main characters’ descendants, side stories about bounty hunters and the evil Sith, and deep dives into the affairs of the Galactic Empire.
