Disney’s Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest

Disney is giving amateur baseball pitchers in the nation a chance to compete for a $1 million prize in the Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest. The Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest is being held to celebrate the opening of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm,” an incredible true story about two young men who went from never throwing a baseball to getting a Major League tryout.

Amateur baseball pitchers—male or female, who are legal United States residents at least 18 years of age or older—are invited to qualify to compete in the preliminary rounds of the Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest at either Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, Disneyland® Resort in California or at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day at the Tribeca Family Festival in New York City. The three contestants from each location who throw the fastest pitches will advance to the finals and have a chance to compete for a $1 million prize at the world premiere of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm” in Hollywood, California. Official rules are available on Disney.com’s “Million Dollar Arm” homepage at http://disney.com/PitchingContest.

Presented by SUBWAY® restaurants, the three qualifying events will take place on April 25 and 26, from 7 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at both Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, Calif. and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World® and on April 26 only, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day during the Tribeca Family Festival in New York City. Contestants will throw three pitches, each tracked by a radar gun, in an attempt to throw the fastest pitch. All participants will receive tickets for themselves and a guest to see an advance screening of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm” at an AMC Theatres location later that evening.

Nine finalists chosen during these qualifying events will have a chance to compete for the $1 million prize at the world premiere of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm.” The top three eligible pitchers with the fastest pitches from each qualifying round location will be flown with his or her guest to the final contest, which will take place at the world premiere of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm” in Hollywood, Calif., on May 6. Each of these finalists will throw three pitches on Hollywood Boulevard. Any eligible finalist who throws one 100 mph strike (out of three pitches) will become a potential winner of the $1 million grand prize.

The nine finalists and their guests will be VIPs at the film’s premiere along with stars, filmmakers, major league players, coaches, scouts and celebrities.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Subject to Official Rules available at event or at http://disney.com/PitchingContest.

Disney VoluntEARS Help Bring Healthy Play to Nearly 6,000 Oakland, Fla. Kids

In a matter of hours this past weekend, a KaBOOM! volunteer construction crew including 125 Disney VoluntEARS built a new playground in Oakland, Fla., providing a safe place to play for nearly 6,000 children who live near the town’s Westside Park.

More than 200 volunteers – including Disney VoluntEARS and representatives of the Town of Oakland and Oakland Nature Preserve – took part in the project led by KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring children’s access to active play. In less than six hours, the crew placed 48,600 square feet of safety surfacing and assembled a labyrinth of brightly colored playground equipment.

“Disney VoluntEARS are proud to help build this place of fun and fitness, where children and families can learn, play and grow together,” said Nancy Gidusko, director of community relations and minority business development at Walt Disney World Resort. “It was exhilarating to see this project come together in just one day for the children of Oakland.”

The playground’s design was based on local children’s “dream playground” drawings, which were collected at a kick-off event in February. After volunteer builders put the finishing touches on the construction, they took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the new play area on Saturday.

“We’re so grateful to the volunteers who transformed Westside Park into a haven of community fun for our town,” said Oakland Mayor Kathy Stark. “Oakland is proud to be a partner in this KaBOOM! collaborative community project, which gives our children a new place to climb, run, swing, slide and just be kids.”

Since its founding in 1996, KaBOOM! has worked with community partners to build, improve and openmore than 15,000 playgrounds, engage more than 1 million volunteers and serve more than 6.6 million children. KaBOOM! helps create playgrounds, empowers play advocates and elevates awareness about the importance of play in children’s lives.

“Society’s well-being begins with a child’s well-being,” said Darell Hammond, KaBOOM! founder and CEO. “Thanks to the efforts from Disney and the Town of Oakland and the Oakland Nature Preserve, we moved one step closer to giving all kids the joyful childhood they deserve.”

As a key KaBOOM! sponsor, Disney supports the nonprofit’s vision as part of The Magic of Healthy Living, an initiative in partnership with parents to inspire kids to lead healthier lifestyles. The new Westside Park playground is one of dozens made possible with support from Disney, whose support will help bring the magic of play to more than 75,000 kids and families by the end of 2014.

Disney Junior Now Available to DISH Network Customers

Following the recent announcement of the groundbreaking, multi-year distribution deal between DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ: DISH) and The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS), Disney Junior, the popular 24-hour channel expressly for kids age 2-7 and their parents/caregivers, is now available to DISH Network subscribers on channel 168. Disney Junior is available in DISH programming packages including America’s Top 200, America‘s Top 250 and America’s Everything Pak.

Disney Junior is a global, multiplatform brand expressly for kids aged 2-7. Disney Junior invites mom and dad to join their child in the Disney experience of magical, musical and heartfelt stories and characters, both classic and new, while incorporating specific learning and development themes designed for young children. Original series include the Annie Award-winning “Sofia the First” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” the Emmy-nominated “Doc McStuffins” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Henry Hugglemonster” and “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West,” as well as the upcoming “Miles From Tomorrowland” and the first Disney Junior Original Movie “Lucky Duck.” Original short-form series include “Minnie’s Bow-Toons,” which follows Minnie Mouse and her pal Daisy as they run Minnie’s Bow-Tique, a specialty shop stocked only with colorful bows and bowties, and “The Doc Files,” an extension of the acclaimed “Doc McStuffins” series, which offers young viewers a glimpse into Doc’s keen deductive skills as she shares an in-depth look at specific cases and diagnoses after the clinic doors close for the day.

Since publicly reporting ratings in April 2013, the 24-hour Disney Junior channel has been the number one preschool-dedicated TV network each week in total viewers, kids aged 2-5 and boys aged 2-5. In January 2014, the channel was home to the top three series across preschooler TV networks with “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West,” “Sofia the First” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.”

The addition of Disney Junior to DISH’s offerings follows last week’s announcement of the availability of WATCH ABC, WATCH ABC Family, WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney XD and Watch ESPN, enabling DISH’s 14 million video subscribers to access live and on-demand news, entertainment and sports programming on computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and other connected devices. Authenticated access to WATCH Disney Junior, SEC ESPN Network and Longhorn Network will launch later this year.
