Disney’s Water Parks Add to Summer Vacation Fun at Walt Disney World Resort

Guests can beat the summer heat and dive into fun at Walt Disney World Resort water parks. With dozens of water slides, sandy beaches and lazy rivers, Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water parks provide guests with the perfect place to cool off this summer.

As Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon celebrates its 25th anniversary, new healthful food options such as the Shrimp Wrecked Salad and the Tropical Chicken Salad have been added to the menu along with some sweet treats such as the chocolate chip waffle with fresh fruit sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. At Disney’s Blizzard Beach, guests can ‘hit the slopes’ on ski-themed water slides or lounge around. For an additional charge, guests can reserve a Lodge Picnic Umbrella or Polar Patio – shaded spots with personal touches and extras such as towels and bottled water.

Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection The Lion King Two Disc Set Available June 24th

Walt Disney Records’ newly created line of collectible CDs, Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection, will celebrate the anniversaries of Disney’s most cherished and classic films that have been enchanting audiences for generations.  Launching the line on June 24th is The Lion King 2-disc set, coinciding with the film and soundtrack’s 20th anniversary.

Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection The Lion King features the beloved original soundtrack, plus 30 minutes of previously unreleased score and 7 score demos by Oscar®-winning composer, Hans Zimmer. Zimmer also provides detailed notes for each score demo.

Don Hahn, the film’s producer, contributed liner notes and provides an overview of how the coming of age story set in Africa evolved to become a phenomenon. The film’s music went on to win 2 Academy Awards in 1994 (Original Song and Original Score), 4 Grammy® Awards and 2 Golden Globes.  The soundtrack was No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for 10 nonconsecutive weeks and was certified Diamond by the R.I.A.A., for 10 million units sold.

The CD cover and 20-page booklet feature newly created artwork inspired by “The Lion King” from Lorelay Bove, a visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios (“Tangled,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Wreck-It Ralph”).   Later this year, Bove’s art can be seen in the hardcover book, Lovely: Ladies of Animation: The Art of Lorelay Bove, Brittney Lee, Claire Keane, Lisa Keene, Victoria Ying and Helen Chen.

The CD booklet also includes a 6-page sampling of visual development art from the film, with notes by Dave Bossert, Producer/Creative Director at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The second release from The Legacy Collection will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Mary Poppins and will be available on August 26, 2014.  The 3-disc set will include the songs and score from the film, rare-behind-the scenes recordings, new recordings of The Lost Chords, excerpts from the P.L. Travers story meetings with Don DaGradi and the Sherman brothers, plus the Hollywood Spotlight Microphone 1965 post-premiere interviews and a 1989 interview with the Sherman brothers.

Avengers: Age of Ultron: A Look At Ultron, Updated Costume For Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk

A report has claimed that fans will see a new look of the villain Ultron in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” as well as the updated costumes of Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk and Vision and their ride, the Quinjet, is also bigger to accommodate the Avengers.

Aerial View of Potential Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Star Wars Land.  The long rumored area that many fans have clamored for years, might soon be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Last week, it was announced that the American Idol Experience will be closing its doors for good in January 2015.  On the heels of that announcement have been reports that Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular will also end its run by January 2015 as well.

In between both of those attractions sits the ABC Sound Studio, which used to be home to the attraction ‘Sounds Dangerous’.  That building has opened seasonally with various shows/experiences during Star Wars Weekends and sneak peeks of Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ and beginning July 1, 2014 Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.  Other than those sporadic events, the building sits empty waiting for a new purpose.

As with most areas at Walt Disney World, there is an area for food and drink for its guests.  This location currently features the Backlot Exprress.  This counter service eatery has long been considered as the perfect spot for a re-purposed Mos Eisley’s Cantina.

While Disney has not confirmed the closure of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Show Spectacular, it certainly makes sense.  Take a look at the area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios that encompasses the American Idol Experience, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, ABC Sound Studio and the Backlot Express.  The area would be a perfect fit for a full Star Wars Land.

With an area this large, the real question is what type of attractions will take place in the potential Star Wars Land? A Cantina make over would be rather simple and quick as the eatery would simply need to be re-themed to fit the Star Wars era.  Would an expansion of the ever popular Star Wars: Jedi Training Academy stage be looked into or would it be popular enough to fill the existing Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular area?  What about a possible Star Wars Pod Race type of Roller coaster inside similar to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster?  Or would that be too similar to the scene in Star Tours 2.0?  Could some sort of slow moving attraction be above ground that takes guests through the Ewok Village of Star Wars Land, similar to Magic Kingdom’s People Mover?

Would a potential Star Wars Land be enough to counter the buzz at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley addition at Universal Orlando Resort?

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Hosts Soccer, Volleyball and Football Events

Disney Soccer Academy: Beginning in mid-June, Disney Sports is offering four-day instructional soccer camps for kids age 5-18 years old. Participants will get instruction from world-class professional players from Brazil and the English Premier League. The three session options are June 16-19, June 23-26 and July 7-10.

AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships: The most highly touted high school girls volleyball players in the nation will flock to Walt Disney World Resort this summer for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Volleyball Championship. The event runs June 16-24 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, features players age 10-18 years old and attracts top college scouts looking to recruit the nation’s top prep players.

Drew Brees Passing Academy: New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees hosts his 2nd annual football passing academy at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from June 26-29. The academy features elite instruction from Brees and other NFL players and coaches as well as a 7-on-7 competition expected to attract many of the country’s elite high school players.
