Whether the movie was your favorite as a kid in 1992 or if it will be your first trip to Agrabah, you will surely love Aladdin. The music and story are so wonderful it is clear to see how this animated feature is a Disney classic. The Genie is such an iconic character, even more so with the passing of Robin Williams last year. He provided the animators with so many hilarious voices and took to the character to a place that no other Disney character had ever been. The connection between Aladdin and Jasmine helped launch them into Disney character stardom. Fans will wait for hours to meet them at the Disney parks. Listen carefully to the soundtrack to Aladdin, and I guarantee you will be singing along in no time. The Aladdin Diamond Edition has the feature film and some amazing bonus features. I love any time I can go behind the scenes with the artists, directors, producers, cast, and composers. It makes me wish I had a Genie to transport me back in time to be a part of the movie making magic. My favorite bonus is Aladdin:Creating Broadway Magic. In this we see what went in to taking Aladdin from animation to the stage. It looks so easy and seamless on the stage that it really surprised me to learn that it almost didn’t make it to Broadway. The Genie, the carpet, and the fact that the movie was from the early 90s made it a challenge from the start. In interviews with the geniuses behind the music, choreography, and script as well as the cast, we get a glimpse into all that goes into making a Broadway smash. I literally could watch rehearsal footage all day long. I just love it! Disney’s Aladdin Diamond Edition must become part of your Disney movie collection. Don’t wait for Genie to make this wish come true–go out and get your own copy today!

Disney CINDERELLA Blu-Ray and DVD Review by Becky Donahue
I have to admit that I wasn’t very excited about seeing Disney’s live-action feature Cinderella. I thought “been there-done that” with other versions of the classic story. I have seen Disney’s animated classic Cinderella a hundred times (both of my daughters watched it over and over when they were little), and I have seen numerous adaptations. My daughter was even in the play in 7th grade-she portrayed an amazing GusGus the Mouse. I decided, however, I would give it a go because I do love all things Disney. Wow! Am I glad that I gave it a chance. Cinderella truly transports the audience into Ella’s world. We learn so much about her childhood and the tragedy that occurs in her life. There is an emotional connection between young Ella and those of us peeking into her world. I have to admit there were a few tears in my eyes within the first 20 minutes of the film. I caught myself smiling when Ella (Lily James) meets the handsome Kit (Robert Madden), unaware that he is the prince. When her stepmother (Cate Blanchett) enters the scene, we in the audience know there is nothing but dismal times ahead for Ella. When her nasty stepsisters tease her and call her “Cinderella”, I was so angry and frustrated that Ella was trapped in that life. The iconic parts of the classic Disney animation is present-the adorable animal friends, the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter), the pumpkin coach, the ball, and of course the glass slipper. You will surely find yourself cheering for Cinderella and the handsome prince to meet once again. The bonus features are a must watch as well. I loved the interviews with the cast and creative team. Be sure to watch Staging the Ball and A Fairy Tale Comes to Life. You will have so watch the feature film again once you see all that went into the set, costumes, and story. To be an extra at the ball would have been magical for sure! Disney’s Cinderella on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD is a must have for your Disney film collection. You don’t need to wait for a bippity boppity boo from your fairy godmother. Go out to get a copy of this magical story for yourself.

Launch of Disney’s Playmation Heralds a New Way to Play for Kids and Families
Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI) and Hasbro, Inc. today launchedPlaymation Marvel’s Avengers – the next step in the evolution of play. The groundbreaking system of connected toys and wearables fuses technology and digital storytelling to create a completely new category of play. Hitting shelves across the U.S. and Canada for the first time today, the new toy/game hybrid aims to inspire both kids and parents to get active and creative at playtime.
Dreamed up by a team of technologists, Imagineers and storytellers from across The Walt Disney Company, Playmation is the culmination of extensive research into the world of play, highlighting the opportunity for a new type of experience that combines digital technology and physical, real-world play.
The online study of 2,000 families across the country confirms that almost all parents believe active playtime is essential to their child’s healthy development, and three say that using technology is a favorite way for their child to play. Four out of five parents say their children are more likely to engage with a game if technology is involved, and nine out of ten are open to new technologies that encourage their kids to be more active.
“Playmation blends technology, storytelling and imagination in a way that’s made for today’s digitally-savvy kids. Our research shows families are looking for a new way to play that’s active, creative and technology-infused – and Playmation is just that,” said Nitin Chawla, Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, DCPI.
The study also revealed the potential of Playmation as a new way for families to play together, with 67% of kids and 79% of parents saying they would like more playtime as a family. While active play is the type of play parents enjoy the most with their kids, currently only one in five finds time for it every day, and three quarters would like to do more of it. Nearly all parents (98%) also believe it is important that their children engage in imaginative play.

October 3, marked an important date in Disney history as it was the 60th anniversary of the original Mickey Mouse Club, which debuted on the ABC television network in 1955. To commemorate the occasion, The Walt Disney Family Museum hosted a program and celebration with a number of the original Mouseketeers. They will be celebrating again at The Walt Disney Family Museum today, Sunday, October 4, 2015.
