From jazzing up a plain playhouse to hosting a lemonade tasting in the neighborhood, Nancy uses her imagination to bring everything to life. Now to be honest, growing up I was definitely more like Nancy’s sporty friends Wanda and Rhonda. My daughters, however, would have loved FANCY NANCY when they were little! As a teacher, I also like the mini vocabulary lessons that Nancy slips in during each episode. She says a “fancy” word in English or French then explains what that word means. A great way to watch FANCY NANCY would be to also read the FANCY NANCY picture books for younger readers and the chapter books for older readers. Making connections to their lives and talking about the lessons learned in each episode or book can spark so many conversations about being a good friend and making good choices. With the push for SEL (Social Emotional Learning) in schools today, characters like FANCY NANCY and her friends can teach youngsters so much.
