Disney Reimagines Retail with New E-commerce Destination and Prototype Store Design

Disney Store Unveils Its Most Magical Friday Ever with ‘Share the Magic’ Holiday Campaign

Disney Store announced today the launch of its ‘Share the Magic’ holiday campaign, which includes 11 full days of Magical Friday (aka Black Friday) deals as well as in-store events and special ‘experiences like never before.

“Every year we look for ways to help our Guests share the magic with their friends and families, and this holiday, it’s our turn to do the same,’ said Elissa Margolis, senior vice president of Disney Store North America. “We’ve gone beyond the traditional to create experiences that are sure to warm hearts and make this the most magical season yet.”

To celebrate the magic of the season, unsuspecting shoppers in a Southern California Disney Store were recently treated to a special surprise in which every family in the store received a $100 Disney gift card for themselves, and another to share the magic with someone they love this holiday season. Holiday Deals at Disney Store

Beginning today, Friday, Nov. 20, Disney Store is launching all of its magical deals both in-store and online, with an additional, special deal rolling out when Stores open on Thanksgiving night (11/26) and Magical Friday (11/27)*. Even more deals will launch on Cyber Monday (11/30). Guests have the opportunity to shop Disney Store whenever and wherever through DisneyStore.com and the Disney Store app where they’ll find great deals on exclusive Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars items for everyone on their list.

Disney Store Holiday Story

This season, Disney Store has developed a combination of new in-store events and festive cheer designed to create an even more memorable shopping experience for Guests.

In addition to a holiday version of the traditional store “unlocking” ceremony that takes place every morning at Disney Store, Guests will be treated to an in-store event called “Disney Store Holiday Wishes.” During this new holiday tradition, a Cast Member will read from a holiday storybook while children follow along with their very own version of the book. The mini storybook will include a detachable picture frame that can be decorated and given to someone special. At the end of the event, with the help of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse appearing on the Disney Store theater screen, each child will have the opportunity to make a holiday wish by throwing a special coin into a wishing well.

“Disney Store Holiday Wishes” will take place daily from Magical Friday (11/27) through Christmas Eve (Mondays – Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.).

Most Wished for Gifts

Disney Store offers the biggest collection of exclusive toys, apparel, accessories and more featuring everyone’s favorite Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters at all price ranges. To help make the holiday shopping season easier, starting on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Disney Store will unveil its “12 Most Wished for Gifts” on DisneyStore.com/12Gifts and on the Disney Store Instagram page.

Disney Store Opens its First and Largest Store in the World in Shanghai, China

Disney Store today opened the doors of its flagship store in the popular Lujiazui area of Pudong, Shanghai, China. The landmark store is the largest retail space of any Disney Store in the world featuring 9,257 square feet of immersive shopping experiences and innovative product, and also features an outdoor plaza.

“We couldn’t be more delighted to open our first Disney Store in China, in Shanghai,” said Paul Candland, President, The Walt Disney Company, Asia-Pacific region. “Disney Store plays a critical role in how millions around the world experience our brand and allows kids, young adults and families to have a uniquely fun and immersive experience while shopping for their favorite Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars products,” he added.

The Chinese characters representing the specific date and time chosen to open its doors to the public – May 20 at 1:14 p.m. (我爱你一生一世), represents highly popular social media code among young people as a time to openly express love and long-term commitment to each other.

In a momentous week for The Walt Disney Company in China, the opening of the Disney Store in Shanghai comes one day after the topping of the Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disney Resort, which is due to open next year. “We want to thank the people of Shanghai for welcoming us to the City and could think of no better way than to open the store on May 20 at 1314 hours,” said Mr. Candland.

With an estimated 40 million tourists visiting the Lujiazui area each year, the Disney Store, with its unique product range and entertaining, immersive and innovative design elements, is set to become a world-class destination and meeting point among locals contributing to Shanghai’s reputation as a family, business, cultural, entertainment and tourism destination.

“Disney Store extends the magic of Disney into communities around the world through unique experiences and exclusive product, and we are thrilled to add China to the list of countries that Disney Store calls home,” said Paul Gainer, executive vice president, Disney Retail. “With several unique Disney touches, our flagship store in Shanghai, China is truly a one-of-a-kind retail destination.”

The interior of the Shanghai store was designed using Disney’s award-winning, innovative format, featuring elements unique to the area that will surprise and delight guests and bring to life the most popular characters from across Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.

The store has numerous design features unique to Shanghai which include:

  • A Disney Magic Kingdom Castle, measuring 19 feet high at the heart of the store, featuring an hourly musical and projection show
  • A one-of-a-kind Marvel area complete with hand-sculpted statues of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and an 8-foot-tall Hulk
  • Unique Mickey Mouse-shaped roof sculpted with over 8,000 LED lights visible from key tourism vantage points such as the Pearl Tower
  • One-of-a-kind sculpted hot air balloons featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Daisy, Donald, Pluto, and Chip and Dale
  • A landscaped plaza

Key features of the Disney Store Shanghai include:

‘Magic is the new black’ at Disney Store This Holiday Season

Disney Store is making the holiday shopping season merrier than ever with ‘Magic is the new black,’ a celebration of the most magical time of the year. To take the stress out of holiday shopping, Disney Store is making special pricing available early, both in-store and online, allowing guests to take advantage of great deals 24/7.

Beginning today and through the weekend (Nov. 21-23), a selection of Magical Friday (Black Friday) deals can be shopped exclusively online at DisneyStore.com. On Monday, Nov. 24, all of Disney Store’s promotions will be available in-store and online, giving guests the opportunity to shop whenever and wherever.
