Mitchel Musso, of Hannah Montana fame, took the stage last night at the Illinois State Fair to a sold out crowd of nearly 12, 000 adoring fans.
I need to say that this is the 2nd time I have seen Mitchel Musso perform live and he again lived up to the hype. Actually before the show I was able to meet Mitchel in person and while he is a superb actor and musician, he is a better person. I had my wife and 2 daughters with me and he introduced himself to all of us, as if we had no idea who he was. I believe it is that sincerity and humility that will ultimately allow Mitchel to continue to skyrocket toward stardom.
Mitchel Musso took the stage to sing his hit, “Shout It” which immediately got the crowd into the spirit of the show and he kept them rocking with the song, “Movin’ In”. After several more Mitchel favorites such as, “Get Out”, “Odd Man Out”, “Welcome to Hollywood”, and “Speed Dial” the heat seemed to catch up with Mitchel as he removed a jacket and long sleeved shirt to which the crowd didn’t seem to mind at all.
Mid-way through the set Mitchel played two songs from his upcoming album, “Celebrate” and “Open the Door”. As the set was nearing an end, the crowd began anticipating Mitchel’s top two hits, “The In Crowd” and “Hey”. For the finale, “Hey”, Mitchel removed his shirt to which all the girls loudly shrieked in approval. That ended the evening for his concert and he was given a standing ovation by the sold out crowd for his efforts on stage.
Mitchel Musso proved once again to me that he can rock out and entertain the masses. He provides non-stop action and quality singing, whereas many other young singers are “studio enhanced”, Mitchel voice is true and solid. For those who have listened to his CD, I would say that he sounds better live and that is a testament to his voice.
After listening to Mitchel and Selena Gomez both perform last night, I would argue that the wrong person was listed as the headliner. To me, Mitchel sounded more pure, had a better stage presence, and provided more entertainment for the crowd than Selena did.
I believe that as Mitchel Musso moves beyond the “Radio Disney” genre his music will evolve as well. He doesn’t need to ignore the “Radio Disney” sound as he progresses, just slowly tweak it to more of a rock edge and I believe his fans will follow him as they age together. His concert last night seemed to reflect that type of change and judging by the crowd reaction to his performances, they are willing to follow him along the way.
